The role of autohemotherapy with ozone as an effective treatment for Fibromyalgia

Abstract
Objective: The objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of autohemotherapy with ozone in the management of fibromyalgia (FM).
Design: 20 fibromyalgia patients were treated with 10 sessions of ozone hemotherapy (2 sessions per week) with a concentration of 30-60 mcgr/ml. The health condition of the patients and their pain intensity were evaluated before and after treatment, using Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and measuring the frequency of the fibromyalgia flares.
Results: All patients treated with ozone reported an improvement in sleep and everyday activities, a marked decrease in pain sensation, accompanied by decrease in VAS scores, as well as tender points, and a noteworthy decrease in frequency of fibromyalgia relapses.
Conclusions: The autohemotherapy with ozone in patients with fibromyalgia showed an important decline of tender points and VAS score, as well as a decrease of fibromyalgia flares. This treatment facilitates the everyday life of the patients suffering from fibromyalgia. This treatment seems to reduce the everyday use of pain medications, diminishing harmful side effects. Further investigation should be carried out, including groups with more patients and clinical trials, to elucidate the effect of ozone therapy in patients suffering from fibromyalgia.
